Privacy policy

Last updated October 25, 2026

The Book Collection is a place to keep your own library. Your shelf is private, and we only collect what the app needs to work. This policy explains what we store, why, who helps us run the app, and the rights you have.

Who is responsible

Nestun Digital (ENK), organisation number 938 795 657, Norway, is responsible for your personal data in The Book Collection. Contact us at support@nestundigital.no about anything in this policy.

What we store, and why

Your account

  • Your email address and password (stored securely, never readable by us), or your Google account's name and email if you sign in with Google.
  • Your settings: username, profile picture, colour theme, language and reading goals.

We need these to give you an account and remember your choices.

Your library

  • The books you add and everything you write about them: shelves, ratings, spice and darkness levels, content warnings, notes, reading progress, dates and genres.
  • Photos you upload of covers or books.

This is the app itself. Only you can see your library: it's protected in the database so no other user can read it, and your photos are only shown through short-lived private links.

Book clubs

If you join a book club, the other members can see the name you chose for the club, the comments you post there, and your progress in the club's book if you share it. Nobody outside the club can see any of it.

Session recordings (only with your permission)

If you say yes when asked, we use Microsoft Clarity to record how the app is used (clicks, taps and scrolling) so we can find what's confusing. Your notes, book club posts, names and email are hidden in these recordings. You can turn this off at any time under Settings → Account & security, and nothing is recorded if you say no.

Technical data

Like any website, our hosting keeps short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses) to keep the service running and secure. We use cookies only to keep you signed in and remember your theme, language and recording choice. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. We also measure how fast pages load (with Vercel Speed Insights), without cookies and without anything that identifies you.

Who helps us run the app

  • Supabase stores your account, library and photos, in a data centre in the EU.
  • Vercel hosts the website.
  • Microsoft Clarity handles session recordings, only if you agree to them.
  • Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google.
  • Open Library (Internet Archive) provides book search and covers. When you search, the search words are sent to Open Library; covers are loaded straight from them.

Some of these companies are based in the USA. Where data is handled outside the EU/EEA, it's protected by the EU's approved safeguards (the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses). We never sell your data.

How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account (Settings → Account & security), your books, photos, settings, book clubs you run and your posts are deleted for good. Session recordings are kept by Microsoft for a limited time and then deleted automatically.

Your rights

  • See and take your data: download everything under Settings → Your library data.
  • Correct it: edit your books and settings at any time.
  • Delete it: delete books, or your whole account, in the app.
  • Withdraw consent: turn session recordings off in Settings.
  • Ask us: about access, restriction or objection, at support@nestundigital.no.
  • Complain: to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet).

Age

The Book Collection is for people aged 13 and over.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app. See also our terms of use. Questions or ideas? Write to hello@nestundigital.no.
